When it comes to fatherhood, there are plenty of stereotypes about the role of men as parents. According to these misconceptions, dads are:
- Primary earners – the breadwinner and provider for the family
- Tough guys – authoritarian and natural disciplinarians for his children
- Incompetent at caring and lacking in empathy – men have historically been biologically inferior to women at caring.
Yet today’s Dads are breaking the mould — they nurture, support, and share in the daily joys and struggles of parenting. Recent research shows that when fathers are actively involved in care, they undergo neurological and biological changes that prepares and enables them to be better carers. Letting go of rigid expectations and stereotypes empowers men to be better fathers, whether comforting a crying baby, taking their little ones to playgroup, or simply being present and engaged in the act of care.
Balancing work and family isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. Sharing responsibilities at home strengthens partnerships and teaches kids the value of teamwork and love. Supporting your partner means understanding and actively sharing the mental load, stepping in without being asked, and making space for each other’s needs. When men embrace a more open, engaged role in family life, everyone benefits - creating homes and communities where all can thrive.
Join our expert speaker, Blake Woodward, Father of Three and Founder of Suit Tie Stroller, who will discuss how we can:
- Redefine Fatherhood – understand the stereotypes and other influences impacting men’s approach to fatherhood, encouraging dads to be active caregivers, nurturers and equal parents.
- Balance Work and Family – Utilise flexible work policies to share household responsibilities and learn how to juggle career and home life.
- Build parenting partnerships– Recognise and share the mental and physical load of parenting, fostering equality in a true partnership based on teamwork and mutual care.
- Model Healthy Masculinity – Challenge outdated norms and harmful stereotypes, adopting an authentic, values-based approach to fatherhood to become the dad they want to be.
