This article explains some of the challenges of returning to work and how to thrive.
Once you have returned to work, the first few days, weeks and even months will present you with the normal type of tasks you might expect e.g. getting the kids ready for school or child care in the morning and yourself to work on time; organising meals after a busy day at work; re-establishing work friendships and so on. Be reassured, any initial challenges juggling these can be managed, and initial stress levels will reduce over time as you and your family gradually start to settle into new routines.
Obviously with growing kids and fluctuating work demands, the routine will no doubt need changes and tweaks from time to time. With more demands being placed on your time, being planned and organised is more important than ever.
However, it doesn’t matter how organised we are at work if our home environment is neglected, and vice versa. The two are closely intertwined and will always impact one another, so it’s important that you don’t place all your focus on one at the expense of the other as how we are at home, impacts our work – and how we are at work, impacts our home.
Of course, there may be times when one does require more of your attention – like when one of your little ones are ill, or when there’s a big deadline on a project at work. However, feeling at ease where you can, in your day-to-day life is important.
