How often should I contact my employee whilst they are on leave?
This article summarises staying in touch days and when to communicate with staff on parental leave.
Staying in touch with your employee is necessary for a successful return to work. Employees receiving paid parental leave have the option to keep in touch with the workplace. The purpose of the keeping in touch provision is to allow an employee to remain connected with their workplace and help them transition back into work, without losing their entitlement to paid parental leave.
How often should I contact my employee whilst they are on leave?
Before your employee commences on parental leave, it's important to discuss with them the amount of communication they wish to receive whilst on leave. To aid a smooth transition on a return from parental leave, keep your employee updated with any progress and changes within the team and/or with the employer.
Along with regular communication with your employee, you may also invite them to keep in touch with activities such as:
- Team wide training initiatives.
- Updating on new processes.
- Involvement in planning discussions or meetings that may affect their role.
- Providing newsletters and updates.
- Participation in team days.
- An option to complete the employee engagement survey.
- Participate in workplace social events.
