Rainbow Family Resources

Where do I access resources for rainbow parents and carers?

This article includes resources to support rainbow families.

No matter who you love and no matter your family formation we recognise that 'Rainbow' Parents & Carers will sometimes need support and guidance in order to thrive at work and at home.

In this section, you will find a range of resources and support to guide you through your ‘Rainbow’ parenting or caring journey.

Rainbow Families Resources

The challenges that LGBTQ+ parents face are unique, and too often go unaddressed. Rainbow Families is committed to providing LGBTQ+ parents all the resources they need to make sure that they and their families thrive.

A new initiative tailored for children living in Rainbow Families is keeping young people safe.

Developed by Prosper (Project Australia) and Rainbow Families, the newly launched program helps young people to understand safety, develop protective behaviours and navigate complex issues, such as anti-LGBTIQ+ behaviour, risk taking and early warning signs.

Rainbow Families School Support Guide

Rainbow Families School Support Guide is the result of collaboration between Rainbow Families and writer, Jacqui Tomlins. The guide was developed in response to ongoing requests for information from parents and caregivers and is part of Rainbow Families’ commitment to providing quality resources for and about our families.

Rainbow families are much like any other family: we all have to adjust to the changes children bring to our lives; we all want our kids to grow up secure, healthy and happy; we all have good parenting days and bad... and we all have to deal with nits and homework and fights over screen time.

But there are some things that are unique to rainbow families; small day-to-day challenges and bigger questions and concerns. Rainbow Families School Support Guide aims to address those differences. The ideas, suggestions and advice contained in the guide represent the collective wisdom of dozens of parents who have grappled with these challenges and come up with some great solutions.
Rainbow Families Early Years Support Guide is the second collaboration between Rainbow Families and writer, Jacqui Tomlins. The guide was developed in response to ongoing requests for information from parents and caregivers and is part of Rainbow Families’ commitment to providing quality resources for and about our families. This guide is specifically for expecting parents and parents with babies and preschoolers.
Perinatal Anxiety and Depression affects Rainbow Parents too and it's important that the right care and support be accessed to ensure the health and wellbeing of everyone involved.
Like all families, rainbow and same-sex families need support to thrive. This page has links to national, state and territory support services and resources for rainbow and same-sex parents, their children and their family and friends.
